The Serviceberry: Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural World by Robin Wall Kimmerer, author of Braiding Sweetgrass, is a bold and inspiring vision for how to orient our lives around gratitude, reciprocity, and community, based on the lessons of the natural world. Reading it reinvigorated my mission to make the bookshop to the benefit of our community. With that in mind, I am going to donate 10% of the sale of this book, Robin Wall Kimmerer’s other books to the fantastic community organization Spring Community Partners @spring_community_partners, who do so much for the families in need in Dobbs Ferry, through the end of the year. Pick up this book as a pick-me-up for these times (link in profile), and then share it with a friend.
ABOUT SPRING
In the fall of 2007, four kindergarten students without snacks and warm winter clothing inspired a few concerned teachers and parents to SPRING into action, so they organized a holiday drive for coats and gifts. Soon a small network of parents became Snack Fairies for young students without healthy snacks.
Some families in our community struggle to meet basic needs or find themselves in difficult circumstances. That’s where SPRING steps in to help.
SPRING provides necessary resources so that all children in Dobbs Ferry, regardless of means, can bloom, grow and reach their full potential. Over the years our programs have expanded to include academic guidance, musical instrument rentals, sports and enrichment support, senior awards and more. Today, SPRING assists over 260 Dobbs Ferry children.
