The New York Times published a list of the best books of the 21st Centruy as voted on by 503 novelists, nonfiction writers, poets, critics and other book lovers — with a little help from the staff of The New York Times Book Review.
Some of my favorites on the list are Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Manual for Cleaning Women by Lucia Berlin, My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante, and Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout. There were also many unfortunate omissions, in my opinion, including books by Jhumpa Lahiri, Brit Bennett, and a total lack of Indigenous voices.
